5 weeks left!
It's truly crunch time! Take 5 minutes to write your legislators and tell them that you want them to properly fund education! We have to stand up to this fight. We are not the bad guys. We are hard workers and we are providing a future for our nation's youth.
Monday, May 9: Wear black for Education to mourn the loss of public education & collective bargaining. Although this was a CCEA push last week, the students really got excited & involved - so if you'd like, join in this Monday and wear all-black!
Tuesday, May 10: Wear RED for Public Ed! If you'd like a red Harney shirt, let us know!
Thursday, May 12: ESEA Rally! Let's support our fellow CCSD staff! Meet at ESEA (3505 E. Flamingo Road, Suite 3, Las Vegas, NV 89121) at 4:00pm in your RED shirt to march in unity to the Greer Education Center to let our voices be heard at the School Board Meeting.

Wear Red for Public Ed on Tuesdays!
Great participation this morning -- both in the sign holding out front & the all-black ensembles! Very impressive, especially for a Monday!
Many people wore black armbands today to mourn the loss of Public Education & Collective Bargaining. We have it on good authority from the Union that we are permitted to continue wearing these armbands -- as long as we do not discuss the politics with the students. We may explain what we're doing, as long as we leave the politicking out of it!
Tomorrow we're also kicking off: Wear Red for Public Ed on Tuesdays! Feel free to join in! (http://www.wearredforpubliced.com/) We've begun making red shirts that say HARNEY as written in the image below. If you're interested, be sure to check your InterAct tomorrow for more information.

Show Me Democracy!
A few things to pass along:
1. There are only 5 weeks left in the legislative session. We are being asked to email, send letters, make phone calls every single day until the end. So, keep flooding the emails. 1 letter a day would still make a great point.
2. To begin National Teacher Appreciation week, which begins tomorrow, please wear all black. We are mourning the loss of education. If you do not have all black, wear a ribbon on your shirt, or tie a piece of black fabric to your arm. I spoke with a CCEA rep at the rally and she told me that we can wear black arm bands every day. As long as we are not discussing the "politics" behind the budget cuts in our classroom, we are not doing anything wrong. If the kids ask why we are doing it, simply tell them it's to support the effort to stop the budget cuts in
schools. If anyone gives your a problem regarding the arm band or ribbon, contact the union, who will send a rep.
3. We are still planning on working to the rule, so we will see you at 7:30 in the front or at 2:40 by the faculty lounge. If you want to help with signs, please show a little earlier in the morning and plan to stay a little later in the afternoon. Join CCEA & SEIU in a rally at Cashman Field from 1pm to 3pm; Parking Lot D. Free parking provided in parking lots A, B, and C. Wear red or represent your school!
Our Goal: Protect Public Education & Protect Collective Bargaining
There will be a memorial for public education and various methods for you to get in touch with your representatives. Bring your cell phone to make calls to your legislators while you are there. Just because they say they are not listening doesn't mean that we stop trying!
Carpools will be meeting at HMS at 12:15pm. Please pledge to bring five additional people – educators or not. All are welcome. Bring sun block!!

Keep on keeping on!
Hello Everyone,
First thing I want to say is thank you! I know how hard it is to keep showing up each morning and afternoon, especially when the numbers have been a little lower than what we anticipated. But, we are making a statement, and even if it is 4 of us or 45 of us - we are fighting. We did great today!
A few of you mentioned that you were supporting the cause, but couldn't make it to demonstrations or even to walk in/out with the group - you are still helping by supporting and that is all that matters. Nothing should be done unless you are completely comfortable with it, and thank you for passing the information on and bringing a friend when you can! We even have a few work-deprived teachers that have walked out to make a statement, but have 'snuck' back into school to work with kids or get some things done. Whatever you can do!!!

On Monday, May 2nd, CCEA is encouraging teachers to Work to the Rule and wear all black. This is the day the Economic Forum will report what the state revenue will look like for the next six months. The idea behind Working to the Rule is to perform the tasks required by the collective bargaining agreement but nothing more.
How can you participate?
· Make signs protesting budget cuts
· Wave signs at 7:15am in front of HMS
· Enter school together at 7:30
· Leave school together at 2:40
· Wave signs after school
· Honor contractual commitments outside your workday (paid extracurricular sports or clubs)
